A Fossil Record Challenge to Defenders of Evolution
By Donny Budinsky
Proponents of evolution are faced with a major challenge on fossils. This article explains this challenge that precludes evolutionary theory. What this means is that this fossil record problem makes human evolution impossible.
If human evolution is true, where are all the fossils? The lack of hominin fossils is a major challenge to evolutionary theory. A hominin is a term evolutionary paleoanthropologists use to refer to a group comprising modern humans, extinct humans, and our so-called immediate ancestors. When we look at humans in the fossil record, we see no evidence of hundreds of thousands of years of human existence. It is claimed that Homo erectus lived on the planet for nearly 2 million years. Evolutionary scientists have even stated that Homo erectus is the most successful human relative to have existed on the planet. This is based on the claim that they survived for nearly 2 million years. They have looked to several different factors in explaining their success as a human species (most Biblical creationists would not consider Homo erectus a different species). These factors include their formidable hunting and gathering abilities, legs that were adapted for long-distance travel, their ability to handle fire, and impressive use of tools.
Let’s assume the evolutionary model as we expound on this challenge to ape-to-man evolution. We are safe in assuming that there were about a million homo erectus living across Eurasia. They were widely distributed. If their average generation time is 20 years–that means about every 20 years you have a million dead bodies. Therefore, after only a million years, we would have over 20 billion dead Homo erectus. Unfortunately for guardians of common descent, this is 20 billion people of which we have absolutely no evidence ever existed. Even to the proponents of evolution, Homo erectus had primitive technology. They are said to have cooked their food and had the ability to navigate through sailing. They would have had campsites, villages, gravesites, and fire. There should be overwhelming evidence for their existence. Again, where are all the dead bodies?
Even if my calculations are off, and there were far fewer Homo erectus individuals on the planet during the purported 1-2 million year timeframe they survived, this is still a massive problem for apologists of evolution. This is because we could fit every single Homo erectus bone that we have in the trunk of a car. We do not find evidence for the human evolutionary story. As a matter of fact, the lack of Homo erectus (and this is just one of the numerous examples) bones precludes the evolutionary fairy tale. Yes–defenders of ape-to-man evolution can resort to storytelling (as they so frequently do) and farfetched rescue devices, but this does not solve the dilemma for them. Just because they can tell a fancy story doesn’t mean that their imaginative story is true. It doesn’t make their model scientific. Therefore, they have every right to believe in their fanciful story. But this does not mean they are believing in a scientifically verified and rigorous model. All they have is evolutionary philosophy.
If the human evolution story is true, why are there so few Homo erectus fossils? This is a major problem for those that want to believe in common descent. On the other hand, this is not a surprise to Biblical creationists that would reject the purported idea that Homo erectus was a primitive human that lived and handled a large distribution of this planet for nearly 2 million years!
